Sikh Union Coventry UK were delighted to receive an entry application form St.Stephens football academy, Chandigard, India, who were on their UK/Italy tour to take part in football during the Sikh Union Vaisakhi sports mela.
We were pleased and proud to accept their entry, as they were the first overseas team to play in our tournament. A total of 52 football teams entered the tournament and we were presently surprised at their high standard of football.
They players are all under 13 accompanied by their coach Bhupinder Singh Bharaj, trainer Surinder Singh and manager Malik Sing Kang.
Whilst in Coventry, St.Stephens football academy played several local and Midland sides. The people of Coventry have been very hospitable towards the team. Pele Bains of Pele's Balti Pub provided them with a free meal and drinks. Gurmeet Singh of Barras Club welcomed the team to his club where the Kundi Family of A1 Turning laid on the food for the evening. Thank you to the Mercia Club and Stanton club for their full support as well.
St.Stephens football academy attended Ramgharia Gurdwara on the 19th may 2002 and was presented with the Sikh Union Vaisakhi tee shirts by the president Gurmeet Singh and Giani ji Gurpreet Singh.
Sikh Union wishes them all the best for the rest of their tour
