After several months of planning members of Sikh Union Club, Coventry left for India to do the ‘Sewa’ for the free eye camp in Jalandhar. The eye camp was a joint venture with the Lodge Devon 1999 EC of Jalandhar who contributed immensely in the organising of the free medical check up and eye operation camp. Approximately five hundred people attended the camp, 94 needed cataract surgery, 270 were provided with prescription or reading glasses. Doctors also attended to patients with other aliments and free medicines were provided by a local business man. Cataract surgeries were performed at Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Jalandhar. Free tricycles were given to ten physically handicapped people. Sikh union acknowledges the assistance provide by the lodge in organising the eye camp and the hospitality given to us whilst our stay in Jalandhar. We like to thank, brothers
I am sure there were many other people who made sure the camp ran smoothly whose names I don’t remember so please accept my apologises. The registration for all the patients was done by Ferry Sharma and her friend to whom we are very thankful.
Finally a big thank you to all the who take part in Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji Charity walk to raise these much need funds so this ‘Sewa’ for the eye camp can be undertaken. All funds raised are used for the project and Sikh Union members pay for their own travelling and accommodation costs.
